Margaret McAllister Sedgwick, 95, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida surrounded by family. Margaret was born February 27, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Hugh and Ruby McAllister. As a young girl, she was known as “Scotty” to her friends and was an accomplished pianist and violinist, possessing the rare ability of perfect pitch.
After graduating high school, Margaret attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After two years at Denison, Margaret transferred to Ohio State University where she graduated with a business degree. While attending OSU, Margaret met Stew Sedgwick, the love of her life and husband for over 63 wonderful years.
Margaret was very active in the Hidenwood Presbyterian Church and worked part time for many years after her two boys went off to school. She was a member of James River Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf, bridge and celebrating birthdays with the “Birthday Girls”. Margaret and Stew enjoyed traveling with their golfing buddies throughout their years and especially their trips overseas to Scotland and France. Most of all, they cherished their trips to Florida and South Carolina to see their beloved grandchildren.
Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Her capacity for love and kindness was immeasurable. Her greatest delight and most cherished legacy, however, was her family. A loving and devoted wife and mother, she particularly treasured her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother and took great pride in preparing her home for their visits with favorite casserole dishes, snacks and freshly made breakfast to order. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, as well as her two sisters and brother. She will be truly missed by her sons, Stew (Dianna) and Rob (Sheila), grandchildren; Katie (Ryan), Stewart, Kimmie and Sofie and great grandson, Luke.
We will always remember Margaret’s thoughtfulness and gentle nature. She was an original treasure, a true lady, and the light of our lives.
The family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
