BREWER Madeline M. Maggie Brewer, age 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her home in Jacksonville, Florida, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Maggie was born on January 15, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Clarence and Anna Copfer. She married Donald R. Don Brewer on July 20, 1946, and raised four children in Columbus before relocating with Don to Ponte Vedra, Florida. In addition to her most important job of mother and wife, Maggie volunteered as a girls' sports coach and Girl Scout leader. She also generously donated her time to many church sponsored activities in both Columbus and Jacksonville. Maggie enjoyed gardening, and traveling with her husband, Don, and spending time with her grandchildren, especially at the beach. Family was the most important thing to her and she could always find creative ways to bring her family together. Maggie was able to light up the room with her personality and smile. While this faded as Alzheimer's took over her life, she continued to light up when visited by family and friends. Maggie's favorite pastime by far was golf. She was a member of the Sawgrass Country Club and the Jacksonville Women's Golf Association. Maggie never hit it long, but she was always straight down the middle. The only time she visited the rough was to help Don find his ball. Unfortunately golf was one of the first things Alzheimer's disease stole from her. Maggie was preceded in death by Don, her beloved husband of 68 years and her elder sister Myrtle Copfer. She is survived by her sister Edna Weichers of Selma, Alabama; sons Tom (Lee), and Gary (Kim) of Columbus, Ohio; daughters Julie (John) Voss of Seneca, South Carolina and Jodi Ellis of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; and grandchildren Ben and Nate Brewer, Taylor and Emily Ellis, and Erin, Stephanie and Kevin Voss. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Reverend William Kelly as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association . Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
