Madaline Waibel, 97, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 22, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL.
Born in Lilly, PA to Paul and Mary Talko, Madaline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose strength, warmth, and humor will be dearly missed.
Madaline began a career in nursing in 1948, which allowed her to travel across the U.S. She met her husband Roger on a blind date, and the two married in 1955. Madaline and Roger were happily married for 61 wonderful years and raised their five children in Wilton, CT.
After a decades long career as a private duty nurse Madaline and Roger retired to Hendersonville, NC. There, they enjoyed the four seasons and were able to travel the globe, visiting dream destinations like Asia, Great Britain, and the Mediterranean.
Madaline always loved and mastered table and card games such as crossword puzzles, scrabble, hearts, solitaire and poker. In retirement, Madaline became a master bridge player and was a winner of many-a-coin at poker. This passion and love of games was handed down to her children. We will always remember her laugh and smile and taking our poker money.
Madaline is predeceased by her husband Roger (2016), and is survived by her five children: Jan Bayless (John) of Harrisburg, PA; Lynn Waibel of Sterling, VA; Neal Waibel (Milagros) of West Haven, CT; Jill McCauley of Jacksonville, FL; and Lee Waibel of Bridgeport, CT., and her four grandchildren: Dean Waibel, Allyson Bayless, Holly Waibel, and Matthew Waibel.
A memorial service celebrating Madaline’s life is planned for July 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville NC. A gathering at Western Carolina Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC will follow at noon, where she will be interred beside Roger. During this time of reflection, let us remember the love and laughter she brought into our lives. Her legacy and competitive spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.
In lieu of flowers or cards, please make a donation to the American Red Cross or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
