Lynn was born in Wadsworth, Ohio, on November 12, 1947, to Connie Dispenza and Hank Tompkins. Raised in Northeast Ohio, she graduated from Rittman High School in 1965.
Lynn married the love of her life, Robert “Studie” Thoms, on November 18, 1988. A chance encounter over cucumbers in the produce department of the Commissary blossomed into a beautiful, thirty-three-year marriage.
When Studie wasn’t getting on Lynn’s nerves, she enjoyed crocheting, cooking, country-western music, soap operas, and Lifetime movies. She also loved the beach and a good game of cards.
More than anything, Lynn put family first. She found her calling as “Gaboo,” mom and grandma to not only her own beloved kids, grandkids, and great-grands, but anyone else who needed a home cooked meal or a place to stay. Lynn never met a stranger; her trademarked generosity kept her front door as wide open as her smile.
With such a legacy, Lynn leaves to mourn: husband Robert A. Thoms; sister Genie Ball and husband Tom; sister Nancy Loving and husband Danny; daughter and son-in-law Jill and Denny Banta; son David Calderhead; stepdaughter Erika Thoms; grandchildren Cody Eldred, Breanna Hotaling, and Brendon Hotaling; great-grandchildren Makynzye, Mason, and Nicholas; special friend Evy Stepka as well as many more family and friends.
The family would especially like to thank the nurses and personnel of the VITAS Hospice Jacksonville Office for their attentive and loving care during Lynn’s final days.
A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home at 3600 3rd St S., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
