Lucy Blakely

Lucy Rita (Balcerzak) Blakely of Stratford, Connecticut (currently residing in Atlantic Beach, Florida), passed into eternal rest on May 29, 2017.  Rita was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and resided most of her life in Stratford.  She was a graduate of Harding High School.  She joined the Women’s Army Air Corps in WWII; she was on Detached Service out of Bolling Air Field, Washington, D.C. and for eighteen months she toured the country with a War Bond selling show.  She spent many years as a volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital and was a member of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former member of St. Mark Church and its Ladies Guild before moving to Florida.

She is survived by a daughter, Gail Blakely, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.  She will be laid to rest in the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut, next to her husband of seventy years, Matthew Blakely.  Any memorials in her memory may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
