Lewis Clifton Stewart, Jr., 70, passed away January 6, 2017. He was born on November 21, 1946 in Portsmouth, VA. He grew up in Chesapeake, VA and lived across the Southeast in Knoxville, TN, Kent, OH, Chesapeake, VA, Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC and Ormond Beach, FL before working and finally retiring in Jacksonville, FL.
Cliff graduated from the University of Tennessee where he played football and then coached under Bill Battle. He also coached football at Kent State University before changing careers. He worked for Mack trucks for a number of years, before finally retiring as Executive Vice President of Nextran Trucks in Jacksonville in 2011.
He proudly served his communities for many years, serving in many roles. Most recently chairman of the Board of Governors for Jacksonville Golf & Country Club. He was currently serving as President of the Property Owners Association. The only thing he held more dearly than community and golf was his family.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife and partner of 50 years, Anne Hill Stewart; daughter Wendy (Steve) Stewart McMillan of Ft. Mill, SC, sons Dr. Adam Stewart of Orlando, FL, Michael (Barbara) Stewart of Fernandina Beach, FL, and daughter Summer (James) Stewart Beal of Jacksonville, FL; and grandchildren Teague Stewart, Aidan McMillan, Bridget McMillan and soon to be born James Acres Beal, VI; mother Gladys Marie Stewart of Chesapeake, VA, brother Milton (Judy) Stewart of Carrsville, VA, and sister Judy Ann (Gary) Stewart Hatch of Louisville, KY.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club (3985 Hunt Club Road N., Jacksonville, FL 32224). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stroke Out Cancer (www.Strokeoutcancer.com), a charity dear to his heart.
