Leslie Ann Sutherland Wager passed away at home on September 12th after a period of illness in the presence of her loving family. Born June 24, 1939, in Birmingham, AL, Leslie moved with her parents to Jacksonville after the war. She attended Landon High School, then Stetson University where she met her husband, Ross. After college, they settled in Jacksonville where they raised 2 children, Julie & Daniel. Moving with Ross to Atlanta in 1987, they returned to Jacksonville in 1995 and re-settled in Jacksonville Beach.
Throughout her life, Leslie always prioritized close relationships with family & friends. Many of her friendships have been maintained since high school. She always looked for ways to contribute to the organization with whom she was involved. She worked at St. Andrews Episcopal Day School, Neptune Beach Elementary and American General Life Insurance. While in Atlanta, she worked first as a volunteer then later as a staff member in Volunteer Services at Kennestone Hospital. She was also a hospice volunteer, and she was always involved in service within the church. She always had a quick smile. She loved to travel and read. She loved the beach and get-togethers with friends & family – from holiday dinners to lunch with the ladies.
Leslie is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Peggy Sutherland. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ross, her children Julie Clevinger (Kenny) and Daniel Wager (Ana), as well as grand-children Jenna Clevinger, Shelby Clevinger and Luke Wager.
A celebration of her life will be held at Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville Beach, FL on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leslie’s name to the Jacksonville Humane Society or the First Responders Initiative, a chaplain ministry to first responders in Tallahassee, FL (address: 1400 Village Square Blvd, Box 275, Tallahassee, FL 32312).
