Kenneth Lloyd Jones, Jr.

1943 — January 18, 2025

Kenneth Lloyd “K.L.” Jones, Jr, 81, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on January 18th, 2025, after a courageous battle to recover from complications with his health. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Mary Jones, and sister Mary Ann Jones McKeever. He is survived by his children, Chris Jones (Patty) and Lorrie Blandy; his grandchildren, Jordan Jones (Erin), Zachary Jones (Samantha), Ashley Overin (Henry), Kailee Santana (Rob), and Will Blandy; his great-grandchildren, Avery, Rylee, Brynlee, Teagan, & Maeve, as well as nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

K.L. was born on February 13, 1943, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He spent his early years living in Johnstown, Pennsylvania before his family moved to Maryland. After graduating from Southern High School in Oakland Maryland, K.L. attended Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock VA in 1959. He came to Jacksonville to serve his country in the United States Navy and served 8 years (1961 to 1969), which included a tour in Vietnam on the USS Ticonderoga and the USS Saratoga. His professional career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office began in 1969, where he made lifelong friendships while serving his community and retired from JSO in 1992, serving 23 years. He then worked for 10 years with the Duval County School Board Police Department before he finally retired in 2002. He was always proud that his son Chris and grandson Zachary followed in his footsteps and became police officers with JSO as well.

K.L.’s interests in his younger years included football, baseball and basketball. More currently he enjoyed wood carving and building his collections of vintage artifacts and antiques, Daisy BB guns, and hand-made wood carvings. His greatest joy, however, was spending quality time with his family. K.L. attended Westside Baptist Church for many years and had a deep commitment to his church family, as well as his faith in the Lord Jesus.

K.L.’s love, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a beautiful reflection of the grace he found in his relationship with Jesus Christ, and his influence will continue to inspire generations. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A memorial in honor of K.L. will be held on Saturday February 22nd, where there will be a visitation with family and friends starting at 10:00 AM and a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM. The service will be held in the Teachey Auditorium at Westside Baptist Church, located at 7775 Herlong Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
