Kathryn R. Lieberman

Kathryn Lieberman passed away peacefully at home on 03/18/2024 at the age of 94. Kay was born December 10th, 1928 in Central City, Pensilvania to Nicholas and Anna Segar. She grew up a farmer's and coal minor's daughter, one of 10 children. She is survived by her sister, Christine (Larry) Harness, sons, Howard and David, daughter-in-laws, Donna and Tina and grand children, Noah, Ben and Sophia, as well as several nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her husband Dr. Barry Lieberman 3 weeks earlier, shortly after their 70th anniversary.

In her teens, her father and one of her brothers, Frank, died together in a coal mine.  Her mother died from tuberculosis a couple of years later. Her brother, Mike was killed supervising construction of the Holland Tunnel at 21. Kay was no stranger to tragedy. She was strong, resilient and put one foot in front to the other in tough times.

Kay met her husband to be, Barry, in an art class he taught at National Jewish Hospital in Denver Co. while both were recovering from tuberculosis. Barry was smitten by her beauty and they married February 19th, 1954.

Kay and Barry moved back to NY and started a family in Forest Hills, then moved to Hauppauge, NY, where David was born. She received a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies in 1976 from Stony Brook University. When retired, they moved to Phoenix, AZ.  After 10 years, they moved to be closer to David and family in Warner Robins, GA and Jacksonville, FL. where they resided until they passed.

Kay was a hard worker with several occupations, a waitress, fitness instructor, muralist, teacher, and nurse. She spoke four different languages. Kay was generous, adventurous and enjoyed traveling with the love of her life, Barry.

She would "dress to the nines" and was creative.  Painting, poetry, pottery and collages where a few of her artistic endeavors. She loved working on gardens and in the soil.  In later years, she spend her time with puzzles, word games and bingo.  She was generous, proud and supportive of her family.  May she rest in peace.
