Kathleen Mier

Kathleen Porter Mier, 81, departed this life on Dec. 20, 2016 at McGraw Hospice Center from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Jacksonville, FL on Dec. 23, 1934 to the late Edwin T. and Ethel Brooks Porter and step mother, Eunice Porter. Graduated from Jackson High School and worked at Liberty Mutual Ins. Co.

Kathy was a founding member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and was active in the church for many years. She married Gilbert Mier in 1954 and became mother and housewife to her family.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gilbert Mier; children, Deborah (Lloyd) Bizzell, Anita (Paul) Farace, and Marilyn (Sean) Galen; grandchildren, David Bizzell, David (Bonnie), Kevin, Michael (Mary), Karey (Melissa), Paul (Ashley), John Paul and Luke; great-grandchildren, DJ, Dylan, Madilyn, Caden, Amelia, Walker, Grant, Brady, Sky and Ash; sisters, Ethel (Robert) Nicols and Gaile Ruffo; sister-in-law, Doris Mier; uncle, Alford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by great-grandson, Cody.

Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm, Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Rev. Francesco Iacona as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Sampson Cemetery of St. Augustine, FL (west of Leo McGuire Road, about 1/2 mile west of I-95. From Hwy. 210 turn south into the development and follow the signs to Sampson Cemetery).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, McGraw Hospice or Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
