Katherine Croakman (Katie), 39, passed away August 24, 2022. She loved sports, education and dogs.
Katie started her sports career with soccer, gymnastics, dance and softball. By the time she was ready for college, she earned a scholarship, in soccer, to Flagler College in St. Augustine. After college, she played and coached here in Jacksonville.
Katie wrote for the Florida Times Union and later worked at WQIK. She was then hired to teach at Sandalwood High School, where she taught math and later Exceptional Student Education. In 2021, she taught virtually with DVIA. In 2022, she was hired at James Weldon Johnson to teach geometry. She loved the faculty and the students who were so excited to learn.
Katie’s great passion was her dogs. She ran Wagsonville Wescue out of her home and was known to have 14 dogs at a time. She just recently completed most of ABC Dog Training course. If she could have afforded to do this full time, she would have.
Katie is survived by her mother, Sandra, her brother, Michael, and his fiancé, Victoria, and her step-sister, Rhonda. Next comes Zoee, Clark and 18 more nieces and nephews; a great niece and great nephew; and cousins. Katie was predeceased by both sets of grandparents and her dad, David.
Friends and family will gather from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Quinn Shalz Family Funeral Home. Katie’s Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00.p.m. Light refreshments will be served prior to processing to Beaches Memorial Park Cemetery where Katie will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ana’s Angels Animal Rescue on Facebook or Pawpaws, pawpawspetrescue.com. As Katie always said, “Adopt don’t shop”.
