Jule A. Howell

Jule Johnston Howell was born to Anne and Bill Johnston on June 12, 1926, in Chicago, IL.  She died peacefully on January 28, 2023, in Atlantic Beach, FL at the age of 96 after a long and fulfilling life. Jule attended St. Paul’s Catholic School through high school, followed by Berry College and Jacksonville Junior College. Jule worked for a time as a substitute teacher at Assumption Catholic School. On November 23, 1949, she married Donald Howell. They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2007.

Jule loved to sit on her porch while enjoying the ocean breeze and a beverage. She suffered no fools, cared deeply about her family and friends, and loved to laugh. She created pink potatoes so her children would eat carrots, a tradition that will continue in her honor. 

Jule is survived by her children Jack, Jill, Donald and Elizabeth, as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Betsy Lindsay and Hospice nurse Scott Graner for the great care they took of Jule. 

There will be a small private service on Thursday February 2. In lieu of flowers, we ask that those who are able make donations to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
