Joyce Juanell Millington Jones, 85, was born into this life on September 30, 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida, and entered into eternal life on June 1, 2022.
Joyce obtained her Associate of Science degree from Gulf Coast College. Joyce, ever tireless, worked alongside her husband for many years as a bookkeeper for Mat Roland Seafood in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, and ran
the family business, J&J Shrimp Company, while also raising her unruly but well-intentioned children and grandchildren. Joyce was a strong, take charge, do-it-yourself woman. Joyce loved to read and sew. In her later years, Joyce designed and made quilts which she lovingly gifted to various family, friends, hospitals, and the Veterans’ Hospital.
Joyce married Louis Edward “Jake” Jones when they were young and cute, and raised their children Sheryl Carter (Bruce), Gary Jones, Lynette Jones, Wendy Jones, and Doug Jones (Nancy). Joyce was affectionately known as “Grammie” to her grandchildren Allison (Nick), Laurie (Mike), Ciara, Garrett, Heather, Magen, Jacob and Michelle, and ten great-grandchildren Raegan, Malachi, Arianna, Amira, Asad, Aleah, Rowan, Harper, Cameron and Colin.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Jake; her parents, Alfred and Tennis Millington and brother, James. In addition to Joyce’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by brothers Donnie and Ronnie, and sisters Eloise, Geraldine and Becky.
Graveside service will be Monday, June 6, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., Beaches’ Memorial Park, 1500 Main Street, Atlantic Beach, Florida. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Joyce’s memory.
