Josephine (Suggs) Evans, born July 28, 1926, was carried to her eternal home of peace on May 29, 2017. She died peacefully in her daughter’ home after a long-term illness, Parkinson’s. Josephine was born at her grandfather’s home in Vienna, Georgia, she then returned to Jacksonville, where she became a 90+ years native. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. She worked for her husband’s family business, Evans Concrete Service for over 30 years.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyt and Mary Ellen Josephine (Sangster) Suggs; her loving husband of 41 years, William C. Evans, Jr.; her children, Pamela Jo Leake, Patricia Ann Miller, Robert Edward Evans, and Stephen Allen Evans; her grandson, James Michael Leake; her siblings Joseph H. Suggs (brother), (Mercedes), Marcus S. Suggs, (Mildred) (brother), Geraldine (Suggs) Hardwick (sister), Marjorie (Suggs) Wallace (Dick), (sister).
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Evans) Hjelm (Randy), Susan (Schachter) Evans, (daughter-in-law), Mary Ellen (Suggs) Hansford (Charlie), sister, Maurice N. Suggs (Carol), brother, Betty Ruth (Evans) Shapbell (sister-in-law); 8 amazing grandchildren, Wesley, Angela, Brian, Amy, Max, Laurie, Stephanie, and Cody; 11 loving great-grandchildren, James Jr., Jesse, Brittney, Brooke, Seth, Dominick, Jaxson, Harrison, Mariah, Ayven, Lexi; and 3 beautiful great-great-grandchildren, Rylan, McKenzie and Zaiden, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
