In Loving Memory of Joseph Nicholas Pugliese
(1935–2023)
Joseph Nicholas Pugliese, 88, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, Joe was the eldest child of Angelo and Mary Pugliese, whom he loved dearly.
Joe served in the U.S. Army in Germany and later enjoyed a very successful career as a dental equipment salesman. In 1960, Joe married his first love, Lois Woolard, and together they raised three children: daughter Martha and twin sons, Anthony and John. In 1977, Joe married Ramona Mann, and together they enjoyed 36 years of marriage.
Joe had many interests and hobbies, including fishing and hunting. In later years he especially enjoyed traveling, boating and playing cards. He had great pride and affection for his grandchildren: Maria Pugliese, Christina Pugliese, Jonathan Ford, Chloe Pugliese, and Brooke Pugliese, who will forever hold his memory close.
Devoted to his faith, Joe was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL, where he made significant contributions to the parish’s mission and ministry.
Known for his great sense of humor and cheerful disposition, Joe made friends easily with his generous spirit, optimism and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister Louise Craig and brother Anthony Pugliese, and his beloved Ramona. He is survived by his daughter, Martha Cabrera of Jacksonville, FL; son, Anthony Pugliese and his husband Gregory Ford of Orlando, FL; and son, Colonel John Pugliese, United States Army, Retired and his partner Guihee Lucas of St. Johns, FL. He is also survived by his brother John Pugliese of Philadelphia, PA. Joe also leaves behind his special friend Joanie Andre, with whom he shared great joy and many wonderful experiences in recent years.
The family will welcome visitors at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville Beach from 2-4:00 pm on Sunday, October 8. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, October 9 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jacksonville, followed by burial at 3:00 pm at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Jacksonville.
