Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather Joseph M Fiorito of Jacksonville, Florida
formerly of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Green Valley, AZ. passed away on Monday May 20th, 2024. He was 95 years young, born January 13,1929 to parents Martin (Patsy) and Mary(Zerrello) Fiorito.
He married his high school sweetheart Anne (Nancy) Ferguson. They were married for 70 years until her passing January 25,2019.
Our Dad was 17 yrs. old when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1946. He was a seaman 1st machinist mate prior to his discharge in December 1947. Serving in Guam, Saipan and in California as a land-based sailor. On Saipan, he worked on a Naval Air Base in personnel, typing up the orders of the day and delivering mail. He remembered the fellowship and friends he made during that time.
He worked 35 years as Supervisor in Wastewater Management in Croton -On-Hudson. He also served as Village of Croton Trustee from 1983-1985.
His greatest love was with the Fire Department. He started "°volunteering in high school making him a 79 year member. He joined Chemical Engine No.1 in 1944 and transferred to Harmon Engine No.3 in 1954. He was an ex-chief and proud of it.
He was Commander in Crotons VFW from 1958-1959 and 1969-1970. After moving to Jacksonville, he joined St Augustine Elks and Jacksonville Legion. He was a proud American.
Joseph is survived by his beloved daughters JoAnn (Gregg) Ciecko of Oriskany, NY, and Sharon Palmer(Tom Bush) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, James Robert Palmer(Gina) of Atlantic Beach, FL., Jessica (Scott) Railey of Jacksonville, FL., Joanna Lynn Haberle(Steven) of Marcy, NY, Alicia Lea Ciecko of Rome, NY., Melissa Layne (Kris) Ciecko Douglass of Holland Patent, NY; great grandchildren that he adored, Max and Oliver Palmer, Savana Ciecko Gay, Charlotte Haberle, Colin and Kegan Kraeger, Ruby and Keelan Douglass; and sister-in-law, Jane Travis and family of Peekskill, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony L Fiorito; sister-in-law, Joan Fiorito; sisters, Chris Tonich(Joe) and Frances Schettino(Tom).
He leaves behind so many family members, nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends that always called or stopped in to visit when they passed through Jacksonville. Special thanks to Marty, Bruce, Wayne, Bobby, Francine and Vince. The first neighbors our parents met in Jacksonville are true friends Jerry and Donna who were also there for our Mother.
Rest in Peace Dear Dad, we love you and will always miss you and your smile. Love JoAnn and Sharon.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2024 in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
