John T. Schiefen Jr.

Jacksonville

John T. Schiefen, Jr. passed away on May 9th 2023 in Jacksonville, FL after battling cancer for 4 years.  He was born on July 11, 1962 in Auburn, NY and lived in Jacksonville, FL for the past 25 years. 

John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain.  He completed his undergraduate degree at Syracuse University, majoring in Aerospace Engineering, then earning his master’s degree in Logistics Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. 

John retired from Unison Industries after 24 years as the Senior Sales and Proposal Director.  He enjoyed his job immensely and the people he worked with.  He was a friend to all and a supporter of many charities including the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund and Camp Boggy Creek.  His passions were hiking, traveling the world and hanging out with friends.  He was Syracuse University’s biggest fan. 

John is survived by his loving wife Liz of 35 years, daughter Carli (Peter) of Knoxville, TN, and predeceased by his daughter Kelsey.  He is survived by his parents Jack and Sandy Schiefen, sister Cathy Deyoung (Bob), sister Cindy Kays (Brian) and brother Steve Schiefen (Deirdre), his Red Mill Court family and many friends.

His visitation will be held at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach at 6:00PM on Thursday, May 18th, 2023.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, at 12:00PM on May 19th, 2023, with Father William Kelly as Celebrant.  A reception will be held at the Family Life Center at St. Paul’s immediately following the Mass, with burial to follow at H. Warren Smith Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of John T. Schiefen Jr. to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund (https://tcjayfund.org/ways-to-give/give-a-gift/) or Camp Boggy Creek (https://www.boggycreek.org/donate).
