John Francis Dorrian died April 26, 2022 at Baptist Beaches Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Marie Dorrian, and is survived by his seven children, Mary J. Schmitt, John L. Dorrian, Patrick T. Dorrian, Phillip J. Dorrian, William M. Dorrian, James M. Dorrian, and Megan R. Dorrian Bowen. John also found joy in visiting with his many grandchildren.
John attended LaSalle University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics. He was the first person in his family to earn a college degree and went on to complete his PhD in Solid State Science at Penn State University. He became a material scientist and enjoyed a long successful career as an engineer, earning patents for his work in ceramic and chemical engineering.
First and foremost, John was a family man, and his children were blessed to see how he and Joan maintained a loving supportive household and remained devoted to each other for 52 years before Joan passed away and moved on to her heavenly reward. They adored each other, and now they are together again.
John loved family vacations, fishing trips, singing show tunes and family gatherings. He spent countless hours attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, plays, concerts and recitals. He had an iron will, which he displayed while defeating cancer, performing his fitness regimen and maintaining his independence.
He was always loved by children, whom he amused with his jokes, good-natured teasing, and original “scary” stories, accentuated perfectly with his booming voice.
