John Clark Arnold, born in New Jersey and raised in Ohio, passed away at age 82 on June 27, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Vicki, and his two children, Cherie Hawley (Rex) and Scott Arnold (Brandy), four grandchildren, a sister Alene Slenski (Bill) and a brother Jim Arnold (Libby), and many nieces and nephews.
John, called Jack by his family, worked his way through Kent State University and then was employed by Union Carbide Corporation for 38 years in Employee Relations, later called Human Resources. His job entailed living in many places in the USA and moving to Athens, Greece, where his territory was Africa and the Middle East.
John had a unique ability to connect with others using playful, witty banter and sharing stories. He had a great sense of humor, and it amused him to poke fun at his friends. He took up golf full time when he retired in Florida and loved using his own golf cart and having lunch with his golf buddies while solving the problems of the world. His favorite trips included rounds of golf. Another must was a vacation every summer in Hilton Head with family members and then having kids and grandkids with him for Thanksgiving.
One of Jack’s favorite accomplishments was establishing the “Kids Club”. Two grandparents and four grandchildren, Lauren, Sami, Kayla, and Sean were members, and the in-between generation was not allowed. We had meetings and discussed important topics, including where our next family trip should be (their parents were allowed to come). Wonderful memories were made.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at Christ Church Episcopal in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Reception will follow at Vicar’s Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32257 or give online at communityhospice.com/give or to K9s for Warriors at donate.k9sforwarriors.org where our son and his family have raised four puppies.
