Joan B. de Selding, 87, formerly of Ponte Vedra, died April 30th at the Vicar’s Landing Windsor Health Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Cambridge, MA, and lived much of her life in Darien, CT. Joan graduated from Penn Hall Girls’ School in Chambersburg, PA, and attended Connecticut College in New London, CT.
Before retiring to Florida, Joan worked in a handcrafts store in Darien, where she sold her own and others’ knitted garments; and at several retail outlets, where she developed a skill in bookkeeping and investing.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward B. “Bert” de Selding, with whom she moved to Vicar’s Landing in 2006; three children, Peter B. de Selding of Paris, France; Ann C. de Selding of Niantic, CT, and Edward “Ted” B. de Selding Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; and seven grandchildren.
The family plans a memorial service on July 31 at Vicar’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Vicar’s Members’ Trust Scholarship Fund.
