STERNBERG Jerome Sonny Sternberg Jr., 92, passed away January 19, 2016. Sonny was born November 3, 1923 in Savannah, GA to Annie LaMon and Jerome Sternberg. He grew up in Savannah and retired in Jacksonville, FL and passed away in Atlantic Beach, FL where he resided for 32 years until his time of passing. Sonny enlisted into the United States Navy in 1941 and proudly served our country during WWII. After his USN retirement, Sonny continued his dedicated service to his country and went on to the US civil service for NAESU. After his retirement from NAESU, Sonny went into the private sector until his final retirement. Sonny is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Suzanne, since their marriage by the Lord Highe Mayor in the Palace in Palermo, Sicily in 1974; four children: Sons Michael, and Timothy (Reyna); daughters, Nordi (Vince) Luppinacci, and Cecila Henning; five stepchildren, Kevin (Cindy) Elwer, and Kelley Elwer; stepdaughters, Kim (Robert) Bendetti, Kristy Bliss, and Kay (Glenn) Nichols; 11 grandchildren between Sonny and Suzanne's family's, Vinnie, Leigh, Eric, Stevie, Christa, Justin, Jeremy, Ashley, Chelsea, Joshua, and Jenna; 3 great-grandchildren, Collin, and twins Harper and Quinn; sister, Ida Morgan; and many other relatives and friends. Sonny attributed much of his success in his life to habits developed as an Eagle Scout as a boy. He later served as a Scout Master for a Troop sponsored by St. Matthew's Church on the Westside of Jacksonville. Sonny and Suzanne enjoyed many, many travels throughout Europe and several other countries during his retirement. He enjoyed politics, loved reading and was an amazing wiz at crosswords with an ink pen. Sonny was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and the FRA Post 290 and he was fortunate to celebrate 50 year memberships with both and he was very honored. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 28, 2016 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Mark Waters as Celebrant.
