Janice Marie Davis

Janice Marie (Brown) Davis, age 85, passed away on September 7, 2024 in her home at Discovery Commons in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on March 3, 1939 in South Bloomingville, Ohio to Alva and Leola (Johnson) Brown. She married Calvin Davis in 1987 and had a loving relationship until his passing in 1997. 

Janice was an Ohio State Alumni and an active participant of the OSU Alumni Association. She had a successful career as a legal secretary and employee of the Ohio’s Attorney General's Office before retiring. Janice always lived life to the fullest, traveling with friends all over the US and internationally; returning with loads of stories to share. She valued her relationships and lived her life with vigor and excitement.

Janice moved from Ohio to Florida in 2012 and became an integral part of her community there. She and her beloved dog, Rocco, were well known in the Sawgrass Country Club community and Janice enjoyed her participation in the Sawgrass Community Choir. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church and Sunday services were a priority for her until the end of her life. When she moved into assisted living at Discovery Commons in 2023, in true Janice fashion, she (and Rocco) became a meaningful part of yet another community. 

Janice is survived by her sister Kay (Brown) Lundy, grandchildren Tocca Dawn Davis and Taysa Ann (Davis) Hughes, and by her nieces and nephews Craig Stevens, Lori (Lundy) Price, Kim Lundy, and Mark Lundy. While Janice did not have children of her own, she was a cornerstone of her family and her great and great-great nieces were loved and treated as her own grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Davis, her sister Anita (Brown) Stevens, her niece Debbie Stevens, her nephew Jeff Stevens, and her niece Diane Stevens. 

Family, friends, and others who were touched by Janice’s life are invited to a visitation at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home (3600 Third Street South Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 5-7pm and a funeral service at Christ Episcopal Church (400 San Juan Drive Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082) on Wednesday September 25, 2024 at 2pm. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Episcopal Church may be made by check and sent to 400 San Juan Drive Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. Janice’s family would like to express their gratitude to Christ Episcopal Church and the team at Discovery Commons.
