Janet Mae (Hecht) Merta passed away November 15, 2024. She was born on May 26, 1931, in Lakefield, MN. Janet lived in several states throughout her life: Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Kentucky, North Carolina and finally in Jacksonville Beach, FL near her son Robert.
Janet is survived by her children, Jacqueline (William), Randall (Lea Anne), and Robert (Gina); her 9 Grandchildren, Nicholas (Lisa), Gregory (Lisa), Amy (Michael), Matthew (Jessica), Aubrie Anne, Danielle (Philip), Lindsay (Scott), Nika (Michael) and Kendra (Alexander); and 25 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard (Whitey), a sister Jeanne (Hecht) Beerman, and her parents Mary (Bezdicek) and Milton Hecht.
Janet had a multitude of friends from every corner of the States she lived in and kept in contact with them until she was no longer able. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Janet was a faithful servant, volunteering her time and talent as a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and Mission Rosary Maker for Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington, NC. She also visited the sick and delivered Meals on Wheels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 (with a Rosary prior at 10:40), Monday, December 16, 2024, at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra, FL with Father Kurian Kollapallil and Father Andrew Beerman (nephew of Janet) as celebrants.
Interment will be at a later date at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greenville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Prayers or Masses be offered up for the repose of her soul.
