James Richard Weis, 74, passed away January 1, 2022. He was born June 23, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey, grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and retired to Jacksonville, Florida. Jim proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. After his military service, Jim had a long and successful career traveling the world with RJ Reynolds, retiring in 1999. Jim enjoyed the beach, exercising, cooking and gardening. However, more than anything, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, stories and vast collection of guns and hats from around the world. Jim is survived by his loving wife of more than 16 years, Maryellen Barber; daughter, Jennifer; son, Chris (Amy); stepdaughter, Jennifer (Steve); grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, Preston, Laura and Delta; and sister Kathi Weis. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Lester and Helen (Wroblewski) Weis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday, January 13th, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32256. A burial with military honors will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 13th, 2022, at Jacksonville National Cemetery. 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
