GAVAGAN 8/07/48 to 3/06/16. James L. Gavagan, Jimmy G, passed away Sunday morning in his sleep. Jimmy and his entire family have always been residents of Mayport and the Beaches area. He graduated from Fletcher High School and worked for the City of Jacksonville Beach Electric Department for over 30 years. Jimmy G was a wounded Vietnam Army veteran and awarded the Purple Heart and other commendations for his service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeraldine; father, John; sisters Judy and Shelly; brother, Kevin; stepdad, Lew; and maw-in-law, MaMa Betty. Jimmy had a passion for cooking, fishing, piddling in his lush gardens, estate sales and flea markets- he was the original American Picker!! He dearly loved his wife, De De and their two dogs Will and Grace. He loved God who made it all possible and gave him his second chance at life. He is survived by his wife of 27 yrs, De De; sister, Deb Peranton (Rick); brother, John Gavagan (Michelle); sister-in-law, Gayle Blackstock (Jim); many nieces, nephews and cousins; and daughters, Tracy and Ceason. We believe that if Jimmy was here he would tell you to Vote for Donald Trump!! A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, March 10th in the chapel of Quinn Shalz Funeral Home.
