Jack Sheldon Schmidt, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Jack was born in Gresham, WI on April 10, 1928, the son of Dewey A. Schmidt and Mable Luecke. Serving in the U.S. Army, he proudly fought for his country in the Korean War. He married Margie Schwartz on September 6, 1953. They resided in Gresham as owners of Schmidt’s Superette, formerly D.A. Schmidt & Son. Retiring to Nokomis, FL in 1978, they resided there for 38 years before moving to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to family. During his life Jack was active with the Lions Club, The American Legion and the Elks. He enjoyed playing golf, boating and many friends.
Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margie; two children, Jack M. Schmidt (Jean) of Panama City, FL and Rochelle “Shelly” Fleischmann (Rob) of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Aaron and Abby Fleischmann; and sister Yvonne Hummer of Cape Coral, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Eason.
Jack will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him for his uncanny sense of humor and no- nonsense attitude.
A Memorial Service will be held at a date yet to be determined, at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL.
