Jack Arlen Ridenour, Sr., 83, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away at his home on June 29, 2017. He was a longtime resident of Jacksonville and the Beaches. Jack was a graduate of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and was the owner of Adkins Pharmacy that served the beaches communities for many years. He retired from a secondary pharmacy career as a staff pharmacist for Baptist Hospital Downtown after 20 years. Born November 26, 1933, he was preceded in death by parents Ralph and Mabel Ridenour, beloved late wife, Mary “Jackie” Ridenour and his four older siblings, Ralph Ridenour, Jr, Dolly Wilds, Jerry Johnson and Peggy Wilds.
Jack served in the United States Army as an Intelligence Analyst shortly after the end of the Korean War, receiving several medals before discharge. He had a passion for golf that probably began as he followed the career of his childhood friend, professional golfer, Dan Sikes. Jack possessed a great love of classic movies and music and was excited to share this love with his family at every visit. Whenever he had the chance, Jack loved to tell stories about his life, and to mentor and guide his children.
Jack is survived by his son Jack, Jr. (Cindy), daughter Lisa Werner (Allan), six grandchildren, and three great granddaughters and very close friends, Fletcher Bennett (Peggy).
Jack will be laid to rest beside the love of his life, Mary, at a graveside service being held at 11:00am, Thursday, July 6th at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, 4750 Palm Valley Rd.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations be made to Humane Society. Jack loved cats and was passionate about caring for any lost or stray animal to cross his path.
