Hugh Wilson Ford Jr. passed away January 24, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born March 13, 1940 in Charleston, SC, and moved with his family to Jacksonville Beach, FL In 1977.
Hugh was a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran (1956-1960) and a commercial/residential paint contractor, having retired in 1999 to take care of his wife. He was a member of Beach United Methodist Church and a friend of Bill W.
Hugh possessed a quick wit and he could fill a room with his good humor and hearty laughter. He was a “master of repair” – an artist with a roll of duct tape and a paint brush. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips and “cabin time” at Lake Lure, NC, and, most of all, his large family reunions every other Christmas at Charleston’s James Island County Park.
His abiding love for his wife of 47 years, Lois Annette Brinson Ford, was most evident as he attentively supported and cared for her in her courageous six-year battle with the ravages of ALS. Annette passed in 2005. Hugh was also predeceased by his parents, Hugh W. Ford, Sr., Mary Ella Rodgers Ford, and his grandson Nicolas Toler. He is survived by his seven children: Donald Ford, Jimmy Ford (Karen) of Charleston SC., Susan Toler (Danny) of Burke, VA., John Ford (Barbara), Evelyn Medley (Bo), Steven Ford of Jacksonville, FL. and Michael (Katlin) of Valrico, FL. Brother William C. Ford (Barbara) of Goodlettsville, TN; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, at H. Warren Smith Cemetery, Jacksonville Beach, FL., with the Rev. Carmen Johns of Beach Church officiating.
