Hal Davis, 87, passed away on May 17, 2018 in Ponte Vedra, FL. He was born in Fair Play, SC to the late Frederick Manuel Davis and Bonnie Whitfield Davis and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service in the Korean War, he made a career with Sherwin-Williams Paint Company, culminating his 35 years of service as the Morristown, Tennessee branch manager.
A native of Townville, SC, he graduated from Clemson University earning a BS degree in the ROTC program. He was then commissioned in the United States Army as an Armor Officer in 1952.
Hal deployed to the Republic of Korea as a tank platoon leader with the 32nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his combat service during the Korean War, Hal continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jakana of 44 years; his brother Burley Davis; and sister Bonnie Sue Thrasher. He is survived by his children, Lillian House (Clayton) of Ponte Vedra, FL, Col Ret. Mike Davis (Ann) of Orlando, FL and Richard Davis of Mount Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers, Howard, Richard, Clifton and Steve Davis; and sisters, Jeannelle Gibson and Barbara Shaw.
A service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2018 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with full Military Honors. A gathering for family and friends following the service will be held at Starling at Nocatee in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Hal to your favorite charity.
