Geraldine Slattery passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 in the presence of her loving husband of forty-two years, Michael Slattery.
She was born on January 18,1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Slaby and his wife, Stella (nee Wilkowski), and devoted much of her youth and young adult life to the art of ballet. After graduating from Loyola University and Chicago’s John Marshall Law School, Gerie practiced law at the USDOJ and thereafter in private practice. She later left her career to dedicate herself to raising her devoted daughters, Lauren and Allison, each of whom also survive her. In addition to her husband and daughters she is survived by many family members and friends.
Later in life she melded her law degree and professional experience into work for the arts, as an agent and producer representing classical musicians. Gerie advanced a significant part of her life mission toward advocating the importance and beauty of classical music, theater and dance through her involvement with such organizations as the Ruth Page Foundation of Chicago, the New Hampshire Symphony, the Conductors’ Retreat at Medomak (ME), and the Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH.
Even throughout her battle with cancer, she faced each day with a vibrant smile, hope and determination. She was the kind of person who made lifelong friends in all walks of life, and never missed an opportunity to help others connect with each other along the way. Her generosity and kindness each knew no limit. She gave of herself without hesitation even as her illness worsened. If there was a friend or an animal in need, they could always count on Gerie for help. Gerie was a bright, unstoppable force of nature with so much love of life, family, friends and the Lord.
