Gerald Timothy (Tim) Lane, born October 27, 1933, to Jerry and Ruth Lane, died peacefully March 23, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends. God’s presence was so profound as he passed into His hands.
Tim was an inspiration to all who knew him, known for his infectious smile, sense of humor, faith in God, love for his wife of 51 years, Faye (deceased), his children Lori Regner (Scot), Debbie Graham (Steve), Stephanie Lane, his 3 grandchildren, T.J. Lane and Courtney, his sister Rhe (deceased) and 5 nieces and nephews.
Tim grew up in St. Augustine, Florida and was raised a good Irish Catholic. He was an altar boy at the Cathedral, a newspaper boy, a Gulf gas station attendant, played football for St. Joseph Academy, was King of the Prom, served his Country and graduated from the University Of Florida. He then married his high school sweetheart, Faye, and began his career. He sold securities for Pollock & Company in Miami, moved to Solomon Brothers in West Palm Beach, then to Barnett Banks of Florida in 1963. He rose to Executive Vice President of Investments and earned the reputation as the best Investment Banker in the Southeast. He was Chairman of the Board for Barnett Brokerage Service and Barnett Bond Service, Inc. He sat on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Barnett Banks Trust Company. He served on the teaching faculties of the Florida School of Banking, The National School of Bank Investments & the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers. He was a committee member & chairman of the Florida Banker’s Association Investment Committee and a member of the American Bankers Association & Municipal Securities Rule Making Board. He was on the Board of Trustees and Member Advisory Board & Finance Committee of St. Catherine Laboure Manor. Tim retired from Barnett Banks of Florida in 1988 at the age of 55.
He was an exceptional community leader, deeply religious and faithful servant. His love for serving his community and church led to his instrumental involvement in the building of Holy Family Catholic Church under the direction of Msgr. Daniel B. Logan, and Our Lady Star of the Sea and Palmer Catholic Academy, under the direction of Msgr. Leo Danaher. He was Vice Chairman of the Parish Council at Our Lady Star of the Sea, and Chairman of the Finance Committee at Holy Family, and later at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
He volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels delivering food to the homebound, provided assistance to those in need through the St. Vincent dePaul Society, and served at the Mission House and The Gabriel House of Care.
Some of his favorite past times were times spent fishing, playing tennis, skiing, golf at the PV club with the old farts (you know who you are) & lunch with his buddies. He travelled with his family & friends and took meaningful trips with his grandchildren. He loved to soak in the ocean, and drive on the beach. He loved and was loved by his dog Beau, a faithful companion of 12 years, and his current beautiful Sheltie, Missy.
The world has lost a great man, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He has finished the race and now rests in peace.
