George Scrogin

George Bruce Scrogin, who relocated to Ponte Vedra Beach in October, 1999, in order to help smooth the transition of his wife’s parents to retirement in this area, passed away on April 18, 2016, at the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic, two days after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke at home on April 16.  Known throughout his life as “Bruce,” Mr. Scrogin was a proud native Californian, proud to have been born in the Queen of Angels Hospital in downtown Los Angeles on December 4, 1942, the only child of Miriam Millar and Clifford Genoe Scrogin, of Indiana, who began life on a ranch in Upland before being raised in Corona, California.  Mr. Scrogin attended Occidental College on scholarship before graduating from UCLA in 1965.  After a wonderful seven years managing marketing for the Sunkist Growers Co-op of Los Angeles Mr. Scrogin moved to a career of his first love, in music, where he enjoyed a successful career as the President of JBL International, in which he traveled the globe, with JBL the first company in China and later in Vietnam, and developing in the process a worldwide distribution system that was to become a model for the industry.  Bruce later used his expertise as a consultant to major global audio manufacturers, for clients as far afield as Hong Kong, Bejing and other major emerging Chinese markets, and several areas in Europe.

Mr. Scrogin is survived by his loving wife, Madeline, who together shared thirty-eight glorious years of marriage; by his double cousin, Margaret Hope Scrogin Chang, and her husband Raymond, of Seattle, Washington; their only child, daughter Elizabeth Chang Stempliman, and husband Peter, of Columbia, MO.   Bruce was the beloved son-in-law of Marie Elizabeth Syrek and husband, Donald; and the “best friend” and beloved brother-in-law of Chester John Pavlic, and his wife JoAnne Adams, who relocated to Greenville, N. C., to live closer to the Scrogin’s.  Mr. Scrogin leaves behind dozens of first and second cousins living throughout the Midwest, as well as numerous friends from UCLA; many close friends, fellow alumni of JBL; and numerous business acquaintances in Japan, Australia, Mexico, and throughout Asia and Europe.

Mrs. Scrogin suggests that Bruce would prefer donations to be made to organizations working to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as any possible aid directly made the many programs and groups who work tirelessly to bring aid and relief to those in our country who have been left behind or have been caught up in or held back by the growing limitations born of the crises of inequality, poverty and sub-standard education here in the US.
