George Cone

George Hutchinson Cone passed away unexpectedly from heart problems on Monday, September 12, 2016. He was 66 years of age. He was born August 28, 1951 in Jacksonville. He spent his younger years living in Augusta, GA, Chevy Chase, MD, and Japan where his father was stationed with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. George was married to Judith Lynn Hunt at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church in 1972 and they spent ten good years together raising their only son, Andrew.

George graduated from Fletcher High School and later, Jacksonville University, with a degree in Economics. He worked in a variety of financial-related services including stocks and securities, real estate and tax preparation. George loved animals, the ocean and music – especially the blues and classic rock. He recently retired and spent his final days attending just about every festival within a 150-mile radius of his house and there’s a t-shirt to show for it. His favorite activity was traveling to Texas to spend time with his son and granddaughter.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of Molly and Hutchinson I. Cone, both who predeceased him, along with his only sister, Curtis Selden (Kitty) Cone, the renowned Disability Rights Activist, who passed away in March 2015. George is survived by his son, Andrew Curtis Cone and a beloved granddaughter, Paisley Xomaly Cone, as well as his stepmother, Ayako Cone, nephew, Jorge Cone and former wife and friend, Judith Hunt Bryan and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home of Jacksonville Beach, with Pastor Tom Bary officiating. Per George’s wishes his cremated remains will be scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers, George’s family would prefer a small donation to the Humane Society in honor of his love for animals.
