Gene Barfield

Gene Turner Barfield, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend died August 10, 2017 at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.  He was 82 yrs. Old. Born and raised in Georgia, Gene was an avid sportsman; lettering in football, basketball, baseball, track and tennis.  He was recruited by the University of Florida and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  Gene was a dedicated employee of IBM where he worked for 40+ years. While enlisted and stationed in Brooklyn, NY, Gene met his cherished wife of 62 year, Estelle Lombardi whom he married on February 20, 1955.

He is survived by his loving wife, Estelle; children, Barbara Wilkins, Joan Grune, Donna Barfield, Patti Fredlund Julie Martens, Carol Brown, James Barfield; nieces, Becky Johnson her husband Randy and their son Randy Jr., Debbie Buck, and Jamie Christ her husband Tom and their son Matt; son-in laws, Robert, Peter and Chris; grandchildren, Nichole, Dana and husband Benji, Kendra, Devan, Alexandra, Jamie, Robert Jr., David Jr., Sam, Jordan, Matt, Griffin, Ben and Corinne.  He was preceded in death by his son Gene Jr, and son-in-law, Tom Wilkins, and Steve Buck.

Gene was passionate about his family, golf and sailing.  He will be remembered as an honorable, kind and caring Southern Gentleman.
