Gary Mashburn

Gary Lee Mashburn, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, passed away on December 18, 2020.

Gary's wife of 47 years is Luann Melton Mashburn.

His children are Kayla Mashburn Devenburg and husband, Earl, of Jacksonville, FL and Nicholas Clayton Mashburn, of Denver, CO. His granddaughters are Cora Mae Devenburg and Naomi June Devenburg of Jacksonville, FL.

Gary's parents were L. V. Mashburn, Jr. and Essie Claud Bloodworth Hughes. His siblings include Susan Rebecca White of Hoschton, GA and Daven Henry Mashburn of Weston, FL.

Gary earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering, with his major being Structural Engineering, from Georgia Tech. He worked at John Portman and Associates in Atlanta before moving to Jacksonville. In 1976, Gary formed Mashburn Homes, Inc., a residential construction business, building speculative and contract homes in Arlington, Deerwood and the beaches area of Jacksonville. He was a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer, Florida Certified Residential Contractor and a member of the National Association of Home Builders.

Gary completed his Master of Business Administration with a major in Finance at the University of North Florida.

Gary left the home-building profession to begin his home inspection company in 1992. He recently retired after 28 rewarding years of performing home inspections. He was a Florida Licensed Home Inspector and a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors.

Gary was proudest of his children and he showed his support with encouragement and quiet gestures. He had a special connection with his granddaughters and enjoyed teaching them various principles of Science, Engineering and Math.

Gary enjoyed exercise and, in recent years, completed five Gate River Runs and two ½ Marathons.

A private family service was held in Georgia.
