Fred A. Cattar

We bid farewell to Fred Cattar, (85) a beloved son, husband, friend and beacon of light, who departed from this world 9 23 2024. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Fred was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach. An industrious and hardworking man, he was known for his clever humor, caring nature, and unwavering faith.

Fred’s life was a testament to his love (and loyalty) for God, family, and friends. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, attended IC (Immaculate Conception Catholic Church), St. Paul’s Riverside, and graduated from Bishop Kenny High School Class of 1957. Fred was predeceased by his mother Isabelle, father James, and brother Jim, and his best friend Bill Ulakey. He is also preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Bob and Ruth, who cherished him deeply.

Fred is survived by his cherished wife, Jenet, and their beloved tuxedo kitty, Willie Whiskers Habibi, his closest cousin (like a sister) Joan Toney. He leaves behind nieces Julie Crawford (Rob, Audrey, Robbie) and Amy Wall (Jeff, Bennett, Lincoln), and many other family members including countless cousins, friends, his daughter-like friend Trudi Lockwood. And, his golfing buddies Ben Ossi, Joe Koerner, John (Joanne) Robinson, and the Senior Putters at Jax Beach.

A proud member of the Air Force International Guard, Fred worked in various roles throughout his life, including co-owner of Cattar’s IGA, and worked at Townsend and Padgett, and ABC Liquors. He was also a dedicated Realtor and real estate investor, (since 1980.) In 1995, he opened Cattar Realty, Inc. Fred served as Education Committee Chairman at JBAR (Jacksonville Beaches Association of Realtors) Education Committee and Past President of the NEFMLS (Northeast Florida Multiple Listing Service.)

Fred’s favorite hobbies included golf, making homemade sausage, and being a grill master. He married at 56 years old, finding true love and joy in his 29 years of marriage to Jenet. His positive attitude, loyalty as a friend and kindness as a landlord were hallmarks of his life. Fred’s legacy will be remembered for the warmth and kindness he brought into the lives of those around him. He was a kind and concerned Landlord.

Special thanks to Heartland Hospice (Maria and Tabby!) and The Beach House Skilled nursing center, for their compassionate care from July 27th. It was a short visit but all who met him loved him, and he was grateful.

Fred’s journey on this earth may have ended, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. As it is written in Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Sleep in heavenly peace, Habibi (my beloved). You will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:8a.
