Frances "Maxine" Martin

Frances Maxine” Martin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away of natural causes peacefully in her room at Heritage Crossing on July 9, 2023, just after celebrating her 94th birthday. Maxine's unwavering spirit, love for her family, and dedication to helping others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Maxine was born on July 7th 1929 in Crestwood, Kentucky and lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and compassion. She cherished her family and was known for her warmth, kindness, and nurturing nature. Maxine found immense happiness in spending time with her loved ones.

One of Maxine's greatest joys was the beach, living much of her life in Vilano Beach with a home just a few blocks from the ocean. She spent many years filling up the station wagon with the family and friends to take them all to the beach for fun and to surf.

Maxine had a heart dedicated to helping others. She selflessly extended a helping hand to those in need, always ready to offer support, encouragement, and a listening ear. She spent many hours delivering to those in need while volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program and during her time as a nurse.

Maxine is the daughter of Matthew and Katherine Shankland. She is survived by her loving son, Ace; her grandchildren: Matthew, Faith, and Alicia;  her great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Jordan; plus nieces Sheree and Diane. She is also survived by her son-in-law Richard, with whom she shared the grief of losing her daughter, Cathy Joy” Day, too soon. Although Maxine's husband, Norman, preceded her in death. Their love story remains etched in the hearts of those who knew them.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, located at 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32257. Maxine's compassionate nature and desire to support others make this organization a fitting tribute to her memory.

A Graveside service to celebrate Maxine's life will be held on Thursday, July 13,2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Cemetery at 850 North Saint Johns Bluff Road Jacksonville, Florida 32225. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her life and share cherished memories.

Maxine's presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will forever be remembered. She leaves behind a profound impact on the lives she touched, and her memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
