Eugene Quinn

March 23, 1925 — June 16, 2016

Eugene John Quinn passed away June 16, 2016 at Baptist Beaches Hospital in Jacksonville Beach, FL.  Gene was born on March 23, 1925 in Greenwich Village, NY to the late Mary Ellen and Michael Quinn, both of Ireland.  Gene grew up on Staten Island, where his work as a caddie at Silver Lake GC inspired his lifelong love for the game of golf.  At 18, he joined the Marines and served during WWII on the Pacific front.  Gene received a basketball scholarship to Seton Hall University and graduated with his business degree in 1950.  He married the love of his life, Joan Murray, from Massapequa, NY in 1962.  After working on Wall Street for several years, Gene founded EJ Quinn and Co., a brokerage firm, which he ran until his retirement in 1991.  Gene and Joan raised their four children in New Vernon, NJ.  They permanently relocated to their Ponte Vedra Beach residence in 2004.  Gene will be remembered for his quick wit, generosity, kindness and never failing devotion to God, Joan and his family.  And for his love of singing.

He is survived by his devoted wife Joan (nee Murray), his four children Kathleen (Robert Baehl), Maura (Peter Spingola), Eugene John Jr. and Pegeen, his eight grandchildren Mary Kate, Brendan, Bridget, Meghan and Molly Baehl and James, Eugene John and Mary Clare Spingola, and brothers Michael (Frances) and Gerald (Marylin) Quinn.  He is predeceased by brother James and wife Eileen Quinn.

Visitation will be held Wed., June 22, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home; 3600 3rd St. South, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. Gene’s Funeral Mass  will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 545 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Bch, FL 32082.
