Emory Hines Stansell, Jr., passed away on December 27, 2016. He was born January 4, 1933 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Emory Hines & Sybil Neel Stansell.
Emory attended Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, but graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton. He then proudly served our country in the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) from 1951 to 1955. After his naval career, he attended the University of Florida and received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. Emory practiced architecture in Tampa, Florida and Wisconsin for more than 30 years. After moving back to Jacksonville in 1990, he was employed as a Senior Architect for the State of Florida from which he retired in 2008.
Emory was an avid sports car enthusiast and was an active member of the Porsche Club of America for 40 years.
Emory is survived by his wife Susan; sons, Mark Stansell, Springfield, Missouri, Andrew Stansell, Chicago, Illinois, and Mitchell Stansell, Tampa, Florida; daughters, Karen (Philip) Nathan, Bradenton, Florida, and Elizabeth (Briant) Keen, Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Shelby, Hailey, and Carissa; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Severin, and Evelyn; sisters-in-law, Carol Jones, Indianapolis, Indiana and Charlotte Wilson, Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was pre-deceased by his former wife Millicent Wimmer Stansell; his daughter, Laurie Stansell; his step-father, Benjamin Wilson, and brother, Clarence Neel Wilson.
At Emory’s request, there will be no public services. For those wishing to honor his memory, please make a donation to a favorite charity.
