BAYNE SFC Eli Bailes Bayne, U.S. Army RET, 1968, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, departed our company on Thursday, April 11, 2013. He was the son of John and Mae Thompson Bayne of Newton, NC. SFC Bayne retired from the U.S. Army after serving 20 years. Prior to his service in the U.S. Army, he served three years in the U.S. Marines. He earned many decorations for his service, having served in post-World War II, Korea, and Vietnam wars and conflicts. Eli also retired as a Deputy Sherriff in St. Johns County, Florida, retiring as Chief of Security of Ponte Vedra Beach in 1991. He belonged to Fraternal Order of the Police, Neptune Beach Lodge # 107. He is survived by his former wife, Joann Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; two children, Sharon Teresa (Bayne) Arenas and Havier of Atlanta, GA, Philip Bayne and wife, Sherry of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Tyler Lehman of Pensacola, FL, Tess Balentine and Taylor Balentine of Atlanta GA; great-grandson, Curran Lehman of Pensacola FL; three sisters, Johnnie Tillery of Columbia, SC, Mary Ward of Blythewood, SC, and Ann McCormick-Roberts (Clif) of Jacksonville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friends, Jeanell Wilson of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Angie Kees (Chuck) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and his morning coffee buddies. Services will be conducted at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, FL on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 at 2:00 PM with full military honors. Those who prefer memorials, in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #107, 2005 Forest Ave, Neptune Beach, FL 32266.
