Edner Christophe Monsanto was born on February 7, 1938, in Port au Prince, Haiti to the union of the late Carlos Monsanto and Emilie Pierre Louis. Edner commonly known as “Nene” to his friends and “Papi Nene” to family alike, completed from his primary and secondary education and received his medical degree from Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
After two years of social service (residence rurale) in Haiti, Edner was united in holy matrimony to Judith Lucette Dorvil on March 20, 1969. From this union came two sons, Luc Edner and Gregory Patrick.
Dr. Monsanto migrated to the United States where he worked in several capacities and specialized in Pediatrics at the Harlem Hospital in New York before he joined the United States Navy and was better known as “Doc” or “Ed” instead of Dr. Edner Monsanto, CDR MC USN.
Nene had a love for the people and nation of Haiti. All that knew him were enamored by his infectious laugh and smile along with his desire to discuss politics, among other subjects. Outside of his family and occupation, he enjoyed many various forms of music and dance rooted in Haitian culture. To truly know “Nene” was also to know that Lucette, which he called “Ti Lu”, was his everything!
Edner leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Judith Lucette Monsanto; two children: Luc (Nicole) Monsanto of WPB, FL and Greg Monsanto of Jax, Fl; his grandchildren, Chakari and Israel Monsanto of WPB, FL; brothers: Max Monsanto, Montreal Canada and Lesly Monsanto, Montreal Canada; sisters: Judith Prophete, Philadelphia, Pa and Edith Samy, Miami Fl; nephews, nieces, a host of cousins and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home.
