Dr. Charles W. Does, age 96, of Jacksonville, Florida, died on May 2, 2018. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of Charles H. Does and Lillian (Beck) Does. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Sullivan.
He graduated from Dartmouth College ‘43 and Dartmouth Medical School ‘48 in Hanover, New Hampshire and obtained his MD from University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, Colorado in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
After entering private medical practice, Charles specialized in Ophthalmology in Providence, Rhode Island for 27 years. He was a member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, RI Society of Ophthalmology and the New England Society of Ophthalmology. He spent his early retirement years between Quechee, Vermont and Sebring, Florida and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he resided at Cypress Village for 22 years.
Charlie was a kind and fun-loving man who loved spending time with his family. He lived an active life participating in golf (making four hole-in-ones) and fitness programs, enjoying motorcycles and antique car restoration, as well as traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Jane, their 3 daughters, Martha Smith (Jeremy), Nancy Esser (Thomas), Carolyn Hutchison (Donald), 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who will always love him.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Palms Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charles’ memory to the Cypress Village Legacy Fund, 4600 Middleton Park Circle E, Jacksonville, FL or K9s for Warriors, 114 Camp K9 Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081.
