Dorothy Chamings Moore

Dorothy Virginia Chamings Moore, known as Ginger to those who loved her, passed away on February 18, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born in 1942 in Williamsburg, VA to Roy John and Esther O’Steen Chamings, she grew up in Leesburg, FL, attending Lake County schools from 1st grade through high school. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, John Moore, and daughters Sarah Moore and Amy (Tim) Watterson, as well as her sister, Patricia Chamings, and her nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Ginger was a competitive regional and high school swimmer and lifeguard before obtaining her degree in education from Florida State University. She taught at DeLaura Junior High School in Satellite Beach before marrying John and taking time from her career to raise her daughters in Maryland. She later obtained additional training for a successful career in technology project management. After retirement, she volunteered for many years at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and served a term as president of the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Outside of professional and volunteer endeavors, Ginger loved traveling, tennis, time in and by the water (ocean or pool), cooking and hosting family gatherings. She was warm, welcoming, and gracious to all.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be sent to Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville or St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg.
