David Wesley Hollenbeck, 97, of Ponte Vedra Beach, died July 26, 2018 at the Community Hospice & Palliative Care McGraw Center. He was born in Central Valley, NY on August 24, 1920 and is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sylvia; stepdaughters, Lisa Hayes Schwartz of Haworth, NJ and Victoria Hayes D'Angelo of Orlando, FL. He was predeceased by wife, Gwendolyn and stepson, Stephen W. Hayes.
David graduated from Syracuse University in 1942 and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. After flight training, he served as an instructor pilot and was then assigned to the Ferry Command to fly new aircraft from domestic manufacturing plants to Navy ports for overseas shipment.
David was honorably discharged in 1945 and joined his family firm, A W Hollenbeck. He later founded Chester Ready Mix Inc., a sand and gravel manufacturer, to supply and distribute concrete for the road construction business. David moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1989. He was a member of the Sawgrass Country Club, the Sawgrass Chapel and the Churchmen.
A Memorial Service will be held at Vicar's Landing Chapel on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4715 Worrall Way, Jacksonville, FL 32224 or the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32216.
