David S. Brock, 82, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. A longtime resident of Chatham, MA and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Dave was being visited and comforted by family and friends at the time of his passing.
Dave was born December 2, 1940 in Akron, OH. He married Joan Ishee in 1962 in Chatham, MA, where they raised their daughter Susie.
Dave began his career as an accounting teacher and tennis coach at Barnstable High School, where he taught for more than 20 years. Dave loved to travel with his family, spending many summers exploring Europe by bike, train and camper van, including many trips to England, where they forged close, lifelong friendships.
In Chatham MA, Dave and Joan’s hospitality was boundless; over the years he and his family opened their home to Susie’s close friends, exchange students and their families from the US and abroad, and their many employees. Local, young tennis players found their way to the Brock house for a lesson on Dave’s backyard red clay court. Dave and Joan managed the Chatham Beach and Tennis Club, tirelessly, for 20 years, making sure that its members all felt their special brand of hospitality and friendship.
Joan Ishee Brock passed away on June 18th, 1999 of cancer in Chatham, MA and was buried in Hartville, OH.
Dave married Vicky Mosher Waugaman on April 14th, 2001 in St. Augustine, FL. With that marriage, Dave’s family grew with two "bonus" adult children, Kevin and Chrystal Waugaman. Dave and his cherished second wife Vicky, have been active and well-loved members of the Sawgrass Country Club for more than two decades. Dave had an amazing sense of humor, and it is evident in the circle of dear friends he and wife Vicky cultivated over the years.
Never afraid to start something new, Dave launched a second career as a real estate appraiser, providing expertise, integrity and respected service throughout Ponte Vedra & St. John’s County. When he wasn't firing off an appraisal with his business partner Jack Dewitt, Dave could be found involved in one of his many passions: gourmet cooking, traveling, reading, golfing, playing tennis, watching or listening to the Boston Celtics, Red Sox, or New England Patriots games, walking on the beach with his dog. Dave also enjoyed listening to music, especially the songs, arias and hymns sung by his accomplished musical grandchildren, Nick and Izzy.
Dave was filled with joy for life. Those who knew him describe him as playful, composed, warm, friendly, smart, handsome, and always a gentleman. He was a dedicated family man, with a special talent for capturing the attention and hearts of his beloved grandchildren. And they had his heart too, whether it be celebrating accomplishments in school, sports, music or theater, he was their biggest fan. You could always count on him cheering on grandchild Elliott at a flag football game or golf lesson, and loving on granddaughter Raelynn on the sideline.
Dave was a man of faith, a man of integrity, and as one friend put it, "The world needs more Dave Brocks."
Dave is survived by his wife, Vicky Mosher Waugaman Brock, of Ponte Vedra, FL and daughter Susan Lynn Brock Dondero (husband John) of Nocatee, FL, grandchildren Isabel and Nicholas Dondero; Kevin Waugaman (wife Jessica), grandson, Elliott and Raelynn Waugaman and Chrystal Waugaman, grandchild Zachary Waugaman. Dave is also survived by his sister Betty Ann Levitin and brothers William Brock (wife Barbara) and Mark Brock. Dave was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Ishee Brock (d. 1999).
