Chester Carl Maccarone, 94, passed away January 17, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo region of Italy to the late Antonio and Cristina (nee Tucci) Maccarone on September 30, 1922. Chester was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Immaculate Conception B.V.M. Catholic Church in Douglassville, Union Township, PA. He served in World War II behind enemy lines in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit and other commendations. He is a member of the OSS Society, the American Legion Post 626 of Birdsboro, PA, and was a member and past-President of the Rotary Club of Birdsboro. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 40 years and worked in various capacities, enjoying sales and serving others the most. For many years, he volunteered for the Berks County Council on Aging IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. A loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Chester will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Chester is survived by his daughter Christina (James) Goodell; daughter-in-law Lisa Maccarone Miller; brother Jake Maccarone; sister Mary Pender; grandsons Anthony and Joshua Maccarone; step-granddaughters Elizabeth and Alyssa Miller; and other relatives and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Savelloni Maccarone and their son, Edward Carl Maccarone.

A Mass of Christian Burial followed by interment will take place in the Chapel of the Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. with Monsignor John B. McCann as Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Chester's name to The National Shrine of St. Jude in care of the St. Jude League, 205 W. Monroe Street, Chicago, Illinois 60606, www.shrineofstjude.org or to your favorite charity.
