Charles Frank Charles passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 23, 2018. Charles Charles, or Professor Charles, as he was known to many, made an impression on all he met through his quiet, yet wise demeanor.
Charles was born in rural Texas on June 15, 1924. He wore many hats in his life, from being a sergeant in the army in World War II stationed in Hawaii, IBM operator, radio DJ, ad agency graphic designer, internationally recognized artist and a college professor. He was a founding member and distinguished art professor at UNF from 1972 until his retirement.
Charles was an intensely creative man and a lover of nature as evidenced in his expression and vision in his art and his landscaping. Most important to Charles however, was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is, and will always be, cherished by his family. His legacy of love and creativity will live on through them.
Charles is survived by his wife and soulmate of 43 years, Elaine; 4 children, Valeri, Naomi (Chuck), Seth (Amanda), and Noel (Alex); and five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Charles will be held Saturday, May 5th, at Omnisara Labyrinth and Gardens at 6:30pm. More details at http://www.omnisara.com/
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
