The family of Charlene Thomas Weiss, 89, of St. Augustine, Fla., mourn her passing on Jan. 27, 2015. She died peacefully in the company of loved ones. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her independent spirit and determination, her fierce loyalty, gentle manner and warm smile.
Charlene was born in Aurora, Ill., and met and married her husband of 56 years, Don Weiss, there. She earned her RN in Evanston, Ill., and was a hospital nurse until she and Don moved to New York, settling in Massapequa, on Long Island, and raising their three daughters. Sharing her considerable talents and energies, she was very active in her church, serving for a time as Sunday school head; she also was a Girl Scout leader, PTA president, PEO member, and longtime school nurse. She loved to read and travel with her husband, but she was most passionate about her family and friends.
In 1994, Charlene and Don, former executive director of the National Football League, retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., where they lived until Don's death in 2003. For the last 11 years, Charlene happily resided at Glenmoor, in World Golf Village in St. Augustine.
Surviving Charlene are her daughters, Deborah Weiss Geline (Robert) of New York City, Barbara Juckett (William) of Louisville, Ky., and Pamela van der Lee (Ricus) of Tuxedo Park, N.Y.; and six grandsons, Ryan and Chad Waits, Matthew Geline, and Graham, Harrison and Quentin van der Lee.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Jan. 31, 2015, at Glenmoor Clubhouse, 235 Towerview Dr., St. Augustine, Fla.
