Catherine Crowder

Catherine Bailey Lineberger Crowder, 87, passed away on April 15, 2018. Catherine was born March 23, 1931 in Anniston, AL to Robert Emmett Bailey and Annis Brock Bailey.

She graduated from Anniston High School in 1949. In 1953, she graduated from A.P.I., now Auburn University, with a degree in Home Economics. While at Auburn, she served as President of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and was elected to “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges”.

In 1952, Catherine married James Edward Lineberger. They lived in Nashville, TN for many years where she was active in the Belle Meade United Methodist Church, Fort Nashborough Chapter NSDAR, Hillwood Country Club, and the Nashville Women’s Golf Association.

In 1989, she was married to Jonathan Jay Crowder until his death in 2010. They lived in Auburn, AL where she was active in the Auburn United Methodist Church, Saugahatchee Country Club, Light Horse Larry Lee Chapter NSDAR and a member of the Women’s Philanthropy Board in the College of Human Sciences. Catherine and Jay were founding members of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her brother, Robert E. Bailey of Dalton, GA and his son Marc Bradford Bailey of East Ridge, Tennessee. She is survived by her son, James E. Lineberger, Jr. and his fiancé Tanya Pass, daughter Leigh Linberger Sallas and husband Douglas, grandson James E. Lineberger, III and his wife Michelle and two great-grandchildren, Roman James & Marlo Frances, and former daughter-in-law Melissa Lineberger all of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Catherine Lorice Pugh and fiancé Genesis Lee Marcum, and great-granddaughter Ella Grace Bilgin of Jacksonville, FL, as well as her sister-in-law, Virginia Fort Bailey, niece Laura Bridges Bailey Friend and nephew Robert Emerson Bailey II.

She leaves children and grandchildren of Jonathan Jay Crowder, Paula Crowder Alford and her husband Bill, Marsha Crowder and her husband Paul. Granddaughters Megan Alford Givens and Meredith Alford and three great-granddaughters, Emily Grace Givens, Aurora Lynn Kral, Annabelle Jade Kral, all of Tampa, FL.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at Fleet Landing in the Windward Commons building, 1 Fleet Landing Blvd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at http://jcsm.auburn.edu/.
