Bhikhubhai “Bob” Patel died peacefully on January 12, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 74 after a valiant battle with terminal cancer.
Bhikhubhai is survived by his wife of 52 years, Savitaben; his parents, Nathubhai Makanbhai and Kesharben (Gulabben) of Vandarvela, India; children, Anju and Chetan; son-in-law, Tarak; daughter-in-law, Nila; siblings, Shantubhai, Savitaben and Rameshbhai; sister-in-laws, Neelaben and Bhanuben; brother-in-law, Kasanjibhai and grandchildren, Suraj, Shaan, Naiya, Sachin, and Rajan.
Bhikhubhai was born on January 18, 1946 in Vandarvela, India to Nathubhai and Gulabben. He moved to England in 1966 and married Savita the same year. Over the next 10 years, the couple welcomed two children into their home. His children remember him as a family man who always had dinner together and who encouraged them to pursue their goals; especially after moving to the United States in 1983 at age 37.
Bhihkubhai was accomplished at happy hour and often was the life of the party at various get togethers. He always amazed us by having friends younger than his own adult children. Bhikhubhai loved Savita’s cooking and he was passionate about taking naps! He eventually lost his battle with laryngeal cancer; but he wanted everyone to know that he lived a full and happy life on his own terms. He enjoyed every minute of his 20 years of retirement. He wanted this day to be a celebration of life, not mourning.
Due to COVID restrictions, a funeral will take place on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville, FL , with only primary family members present. Pandit Bhupendra Shastri will officiate the ceremony. Following this ceremony, a link to the recording will be attached as well as a link to a slide show celebrating his life on www.quinn-shalz.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society at www.donate3.cancer.org. Condolences can be sent to chetpatelmd@gmail.com and angiepatel@icloud.com.
